The brief

The brief wasn’t to start again.

H&O Bengaluru is a furniture business for home, office and outdoor spaces. It already had an identity and a known name. It wanted to feel more polished, contemporary and customer-facing, without losing what people recognised.

What we noticed

Some brands need to be looked at again, not reinvented.

The furniture was the strongest thing H&O had: wood grain, fabric, finishes, form. The brand around it only needed to step back and frame it.

The question

How do you make an existing furniture brand look more considered without making it feel like a completely different brand?

The makingDecision, and why

Treat it as a brand extension, not a rebrand.

The existing name stays at the centre. The treatment becomes more deliberate.

The ampersand is a connector: home and office, function and form, work and living.

It gives the identity a reason beyond making the logo look better.

The palette is grounded: warm brown, soft beige, olive green, cream, deep brown.

Wood, fabric and upholstery become part of the identity instead of competing with it.

Tall letterforms recall architectural lines and frames.

They bring structure, stability and permanence into the mark.

Cormorant Garamond for expressive moments, Poppins for information.

Premium and approachable, without becoming decorative.

Let the furniture lead: close-up, detail-led photography.

The tactile qualities of furniture do the persuading.

The making: the everyday things

The materials a furniture store actually uses.

A GST board. Visiting cards. A starter set of social templates the team can reuse as new products arrive: product posts, detail shots, typographic compositions, product sketches and informational layouts.

The making: a feed that reads as one

Nine posts, ten highlight covers, three stories.

The templates share their margins, their two typefaces and one rule: a single piece of furniture at a time. The furniture in them is drawn by the studio as a stand-in until H&O’s photographs go in.

Play with it

Which chair should you be sitting in?

Four questions. The chair redraws itself as you answer. Then take the answer to H&O, who will find you the real one.

How long do you sit in it?

What happens at the desk?

Where will it live?

How do you actually sit?

Start with any question.

There is no wrong order. Change an answer and the chair changes with it.

The chairs are types, drawn by the studio, not pieces from H&O’s catalogue. The advice is general good practice for sitting well. H&O will match it to a real chair, and to you.

The logo, the six colours, the two typefaces, the brand story and the plaster and stone grounds are H&O Bengaluru’s, from its guideline. The book around them has been re-set by Khatt. The furniture and the material studies are drawn by the studio and stand in for H&O’s photographs. Bracketed details are placeholders.

The result

The existing company, looking more like the brand it was becoming.

A little more considered. A little more cohesive. A lot more usable.

Exactly what Khatt did

Brand extension

Existing identity refinement, logo exploration, colour system, typography system, visual direction.

Print

GST board, visiting cards, brand collateral.

Social

Starter templates, product-focused layouts, editorial content direction.

That was the short version.

The full story has every decision, the reason behind each one, and more of the work.

P.S.

H&O already had the business. We gave it a visual system to show up with.

with love, Khatt
